Born in Japan in 1987.
Sakurai began working with video during the COVID-19 pandemic, initially keeping a diary through moving images.
The artist’s practice explores the intersection of personal questions—such as “Who am I?”—with broader, universal concerns.
Since 2023, Sakurai has developed lecture-performances incorporating diary footage, examining the relationship between the inside and outside of the image, and the boundary between fiction and documentation.
Through these works, Sakurai seeks possibilities for expression that extend beyond the conventional frame of cinema.
